Multimedia - Karen Armstrong on religion and harmony

Published: August 17, 2009

People want to be religious, says religious scholar Karen Armstrong, and we should act to help make religion a force for harmony.

In this engaging and thought provoking talk, she asks the TED community, a small nonprofit devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading”,  to help her build a Charter for Compassion. The Charter will be launched in November 2009.

Armstrong, a former nun, has written more than 20 books on faith and the major religions, studying what Islam, Judaism and Christianity have in common, and how our faiths shaped world history and drive current events.
