Authorities are investigating the "sudden and unexplained" death of Fr
Frank X. Klamet, who was pastor of St Augustine parish in Jamestown and
St Benignus parish in Greenfield, Ohio, as well as practicing as a
family doctor.
Fr Klamet was found dead in his home at the St. Benignus church rectory Sunday morning about 9:40 a.m. by parishioners who went looking for him when he did not appear for Mass, the Xenia Gazette reports.
Greenfield Police Chief Tim Hester told the media that Klamet's death was "sudden and unexplained" and that he was awaiting autopsy results.
He also said the scene was being processed by the state Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, an agency that provides forensic assistance to law enforcement agencies throughout Ohio.
Ordained a Catholic priest in 1978, Klamet served as a missionary in El Salvador from 1983 to 1991.
In 1995, he earned a medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
Fr Klamet also had a popular medical practice, focusing on obstetrics and gynecology, in Washington Court House.
"There are all kinds of rumors out there," Greenfield resident Janet Terry told the Record-Herald. "I don't know if he had health problems or what. Nobody really knows what to think right now."
