ABC, the Australian Broadcast Corp., reports that the 2016 glossy calendar featuring images of Russian Orthodox priests posing with their cats is a rare occurrence for religious leaders who typically are not photographed in such an informal fashion.
Ksenia Luchenko, who helped create the project say the idea for a calendar was sparked by a book project that captured the priests in their everyday lives.
The quirky calendar is not endorsed by the Russian Orthodox Church. A senior church spokesman said that while the calendar was “not a great sin†he wouldn’t hang one on his wall.
Apparently many people do want the calendar as word about the project spreads around the globe. An initial run is expected to sell out. A fundraiser is also in the works. [More]
