“Hello? It’s the POPE”: 19-year-old student surprised by phone call from Pope Francis

The average 19-year-old student avoids phone calls from their mum – but what do you do when the Pope calls?

Stefano Cabizza, an information technology student in Padua, Italy, received a phone call from Pope Francis in a surprising display of familiarity.

Stefano had left a letter for the pontiff following a mass, where he described his life and expressed hopes that he would find a job at the end of his studies.

Pope Francis has already rung several people who have written to him or suffered a personal tragedy.

The 76-year-old is said to like placing his own calls using landlines and often surprises the person on the other end, announcing: “It’s the pope”

Hilariously, the Pope could not reach Stefano on his first attempt because he was not at home, and had to try a second time.

Stefano said the phone call was “a fantastic experience.

“I couldn’t believe it. We laughed and joked for about eight minutes. He called me around five o’clock after finding that I was not at home the first time around. [more]
