Vatican insists on dialogue among religions following killing of US ambassador to Libya
The Vatican underlined Pope Benedict XVI’s push for dialogue among religions in the aftermath of the killing of the U.S. ambassador to Libya by a mob enraged by an anti-Muslim film.
The Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, issued a statement on Wednesday saying that “unjustified offense and provocations” against Muslims have “sometimes tragic results” that “nourish tension and hatred” and unleash “unacceptable violence.”
The Vatican said respect for “beliefs, texts, outstanding figures and symbols” of all religious is “essential” for peaceful coexistence.
It is a message the pope will be taking on a trip to Lebanon that begins on Friday.
U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens was killed along with three of his staff members in an attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on Tuesday night.

Bravo to the pope for having the courage to make such a pronouncement. I’m sure he was aware that some would criticize him for saying what he did, but he said what needed to be said anyway. That is leadership and courage. Thank you, Benedict XVI! U da man!
As much as I dislike Mr. 666 and his apologies for America, the pope has a point — if someone is angry and has a loaded gun, you don’t go up to him and call him a coward, because he will blow you away. The pope is simply calling for common sense — he is not asking Catholics to endorse Islam, he is simply saying be sensitive to not step on their toes, just like we would not appreciate having our toes stepped on, like when the Muslims wanted to buy property near the old Twin Towers to establish a Muslim temple there.
Nothing justifies the murder of U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and his three staff members. Nothing justifies the taking of a life-However the Holy Father is correct denouncing this stupid film which is being used as an excuse to riot and shed American Blood. I would hope that the American People find a way to put a stop to these idiots who say and do things that inflame violence through out the world. May God bless America and keep Her strong!
Thanks for your thoughts and well-wishes for our country, Catholic Lady. And, if you check my post on this thread, you’ll see that I said essentially the same thing you did — we need to have sensitivity to the religious beliefs of others, just like we want them to respect ours.
. . .”‘unjustified offense and provocations’ against Muslims….”
This sounds like something Obama would spout out.
I can’t believe this!
