LCWR’s evolutionary leadership will help determine future, keynote speaker says
The keynote speaker at the annual Leadership Conference of Women Religious assembly assured the sisters that their qualities of “evolutionary leadership” will serve them well in their future decisions.
Barbara Marx Hubbard, an author and promoter of “conscious evolution,” told approximately 900 sisters who gathered in St. Louis for their annual assembly that they are facing a profound moment in time.
“We have come here together at the most critical time in the history of humanity because we’re facing a moment of choice,” she said.
Hubbard expanded on her philosophy, saying that out of every crisis comes the opportunity for evolution or destruction.
“How might the contents of conscious evolution be a service to a full next step to the larger world and to the Church itself?” she asked the assembly.
Hubbard’s address comes after the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith issued in April 2012 the results of a four year study of the organization that found a doctrinal “crisis.” The report placed Archbishop J. Peter Sartain of Seattle in charge of carrying out a reform of the group.
Among the key findings of the assessment were serious theological and doctrinal errors in presentations at the conference’s annual assemblies in recent years.
Several of the addresses, the assessment said, depicted a vision of religious life that is incompatible with the faith of the Church. Some attempted to justify dissent from Church doctrine and showed “scant regard for the role of the Magisterium.”
“As you know, she is a scientist and futurist and LCWR is very interested in hearing understandings about the rapid shifts that are occurring in the world today,” the group’s president Sr. Pat Farrell told the media Aug. 2.
Hubbard made no mention of the Vatican’s assessment and the sisters have been encouraged not to “speculate publicly” about what will happen.
LCWR’s leaders are expected to make an announcement Aug. 10 about how they will respond to the Vatican mandate for reform, after consultation in a series of executive sessions. [More]

This Barbara Marx Hubbard is the epitome of what the Vatican should be concerned about: not whether the sisters are preaching enough against abortion, but the fact that a significant number of them are promoting this post-Christian New Age stuff. Why do these types even want to BE religious sisters anymore when their spirituality clearly has nothing to do with Jesus Christ???
Maybe the Sisters share in the hope and vision and Christology of Teilhard de Chardin.
The following is from the Wikipedia article on de Chardin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_Teilhard_de_Chardin): “This was the first of a series of condemnations by certain ecclesiastical officials that would continue until long after Teilhard’s death. The climax of these condemnations was a 1962 monitum (reprimand) of the Holy Office denouncing his works. From the monitum:
‘The above-mentioned works abound in such ambiguities and indeed even serious errors, as to offend Catholic doctrine… For this reason, the most eminent and most revered Fathers of the Holy Office exhort all Ordinaries as well as the superiors of Religious instxtxtes, rectors of seminaries and presidents of universities, effectively to protect the minds, particularly of the youth, against the dangers presented by the works of Fr. Teilhard de Chardin and of his followers’.” The article continues: “The Holy See clarified that recent statements by members of the Church, in particular those made on the hundredth anniversary of Teilhard’s birth, were not to be interpreted as a revision of previous stands taken by the Church officials. Thus the 1962 statement remains official Church policy to this day.” Thus, the Church REJECTS what de Chardin wrote. So, indeed, it would not surprise me if these heretics were taking a page out of de Chardin. Why wouldn’t they? They have a New Age keynote speaker, who presumably is even worse than de Chardin. Now, for all those with master’s degrees in theology: I could care less what you studied in obtaining your degree, taught by puffed-up Ph.D. theologians who think they can out-think God. If you learned that de Chardin is consistent with Catholic teaching, you learned wrong. So, you should request a refund of the money you paid for your tuition, and sue the school for money to pay a de-programmer, because you have been brainwashed.
I knew you were going to pull that, do some real adult research and see that John Paul II said about him and Benedict XVI. You know nothing fool.
I already did, Tony. But, what I posted stands: the official position of the Church in 2012 is that they reject what de Chardin has to say. So, you can follow another heretic if you want — you already love the heretic LCWR, and probably are a groupie of Barbara Marx Hubbard. Do you have cyrstals in your living room, Tony? If not, you should — I think we are “evolving” in that direction. Again, Tony, ask your school for a refund, and sue them for the funds to pay a de-programmer.
Wait, wait!! I’m feeling the urge to do some sacred dancing! Aaaa Uuuummmm! I can feel it! I can feel the spirits of our evolved consciousness! Oh, man, this is it! This is BEYOND what the stupid, medieval Church teaches. I know it’s hard to accept that you got ripped off for the tuition for your master’s degree, not to mention all the time you invested. But, cut your losses, Tony. Don’t persist in a heretical direction. The sooner you can admit that your were taught garbage heresy by puffed-up Ph.D.s who thought they could out-think God, they better off you will be.
It’s ok Jimmy, I’ll stick with JPII and B16 thanks
Don’t a lot of the psalms tell us to clap our hands and dance for joy before the Lord.
Is that too New Age, Go look that up in your catechism when you get off your soap box.
Tony — Have some respect. That’s POPE John Paul II and POPE Benedict XVI. You don’t like the fact that I all anti-Christ Obama Obama, without referring to him as president — but you are unwilling to type out the designation “pope” when talking about the popes, and you abbreviate their names with stupid abbreviations. Have some respect, Tony — but, actually, I don’t expect respect of the hierarchy from a CINO.
There is nothing disrespectful in this age of texting and internent comments to use initials and numbers for shortning a name. Wait, doesn’t it say that in your little catechism next to were it tells you to call the Sisters and Nuns Heretics.
“Little Catechism” again. Also, since you are so into abbreviations, it’s interesting that you never abbreviate when you post about fascist anti-Christ Obama.
Oh Jim now really, haventyou read about what I wrote about the Alfred E Smith Dinner fiasco?
Oh yeah you must have been reading your little catechism and missed it.
Well, first, reading my Catechism would be a much better use of my time than reading your posts. But, yes, I did read your post about the dinner, and agreed with you. I don’t think everything you post is wrong — and, although it is hard to see it from your juvenile, girlish emotional rants, I believe you intend well. I suppose if I spent a lot of time and money to acquire a master’s degree, I too would hang on to the belief that I was knowledgable. But, I have compelling evidence that higher educaiton is a scam and a racket. People like Terese of Liseux, who had very little formal education, nevertheless knew so much about God that the Church calls her a doctor. This clearly illustrates that formal education is not necessary. In the United States at the present time, including at Catholic universities, the professors are liberal idiots who think they are so smart. I have no respect for them.
Jim, I too have the highest respect for you and your integrity and your depth of knowledge. I do however get upset when you call the Sisters every kind of Heretic. They too for the most part are good people like you and I, who are asking questions and looking to follow Jesus as best they can. If you can, go easy on them, if you can’t I will try to understand. Please know that since I have come to know you on this site I have prayed for you daily.
Dear Tony — well, I must say, my jaw dropped in reading your post — I certainly did not expect you to say what you did. I will take into account your request to not trash the LCWR. However, I must say I really don’t have the positive view of these sisters that you do. I frankly think that you are better-intended than they are. I don’t believe you’d go to a specch by Barbara Marx Hubbard; or at least, you’d never invite her to be the keynote speaker at a function you were heading. Perhaps you have a hard time seeing them for what they are because you have a kind heart, and find it hard to comprehend that others can be so proud and willful. In any case, I sincerely do appreciate your prayers. I want you to know that, alhtough perhaps not daily, I have prayed for you and others on this site as well, including after receiving Our Lord in Communion. I think once, when I mentioned your name to Our Lord, He said back to me, “Aaah, yes, Tony …”
Pope Benedict said, “It’s the great vision of DeChardin also had” at the end we will have a true cosmic liturgy, where the cosmos becomes a living holst, Let us pray to the Lord that he help us be priests in this sense to hel transformation of the world in adoration of God, beginning with ourselves.
Oh Jimmy, has the holy father gone new age? from “Pope cites Telhardian vision of the cosmos as a living host.” Oh my God Jimmy thats not in your little catechism.
Tony — I read that quote — it’s right in the Wiki article. But, it doesn’t change the fact that. while there might be some salvagable piece from what heretic de Chardin wrote, the Church’s August 10, 2012 position remains that de Chardin’s works are rejected. So, Tony, you probably will follow your own proud heart. Why would you listen to a person like me, who you dubbed a “fool” in your post above? Boy, that is pride — you want to talk about arrogance and a lack of humility, there it is. No virtue, Tony. It takes humility to learn from others, Tony.
Right Jim, it takes humility to learn from others. Too bad you are so puffed up you can’t see the baby for the bath. I feel sorry for you and your myopic vision of God, and the beautiful life he gave you on this beautiful planet.
Well, Tony, it doesn’t really matter — you know, planet Earth is evolving into a new state of consciousness. Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh Uuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmm.
Yes, into the Risen Glorified Christ who will meet it in all of His Glory. What a beautiful vision.
Too bad you don’t have the vision to share in that Hope, as we wait in joyful home for the coming of our savior Jesus Christ.
And Tony, denigrating the Catechism again, by calling it my “little catechism.” I guess you’re too knowledgeable to be able to learn from the Catechism. Yep, remember, you have a master’s degree in theolgy — you’re WAY beyond the Catechism. The Catechism is for simpletons like me. You know, Tony, your posts are the best warning for anyone who might be considering obtaining a master’s degree in theology — my goodness, it may lead to your ultimate destruction. If it doesn’t, it certainly appears like it has lengthened your time in Purgatory by a lot.
Oh wow, now your equating yourself to God in Judging me to Purgatory. Pretty impressive Jimmy does your little Catechism teach you to do that too?
“Little Catechism” — again, Tony, you might want to ask yourself, what does that say about the amount of respect you have for the Catechism? Well, of course you have no respect for it — it was devised by the ALL MALE Vatican hierarchy.
And with regard to Purgatory: there is every reason to believe that 99.99% of those who achieve salvation spend at least some time in Purgatory. If you think you won’t spent time there, you didn’t learn very much in your study of theology. But, of course, those puffed-up PhDs were WAY beyond considerations of Purgatory. You know, ideas like Purgatory are for stupid fools like me.
Right on, Nancy. Want to read some real New Age garbage? At this link: http://www.barbaramarxhubbard.com/site/node/45
you will find the following (I simply copied-and-pasted it here, so there is no error in transcription):
“Although we may never know what really happened, we do know that the story told in the Gospels is that Jesus’ resurrection was a first demonstration of what I call the post-human universal person. We are told that he did not die. He made his transition, released his animal body, and reappeared in a new body at the next level of physicality to tell all of us that we would do what he did. The new person that he became had continuity of consciousness with his life as Jesus of Nazareth, an earthly life in which he had become fully human and fully divine. Jesus’ life stands as a model of the transition from Homo sapiens to Homo universalis.”
Talk about these fake sisters being heretics: if anyone ever had any doubt, simply Google Barbara Marx Hubbard, or use the link I have provided to her own web site. It is replete with non-Christian, New Age garbage. The very fact that the LCWR could offer her an invitation to make a keynote address at their conference says anything anyone needs to know about the LCWR. They are out-and-out heretics. If the sisters who taught me were alive today, they’d set Barbara Marx Hubbard and the LCWR leaders straight — they’d crack them over the hands with their rulers, and make all of them go to Confession.
In case you needed any more documentation, here’s more New Age garbage copied-and-pasted from the same page of Barbara Marx Hubbards’ own website (http://www.barbaramarxhubbard.com/site/node/45)
“Now millions of earthly humans from every spiritual tradition, from many social movements and scientific lineages of human inquiry, are evolving to the stage at which they recognize their soul, their higher self. They are becoming willing, even passionately desire, to be one with that Self. And as a critical mass of humans evolving toward their new capacities arise, humanity will undergo an unprecedented shifting in our entire way of being on this planet.”
So, I hereby call out Tony and anyone else who would defend these heretics — this is irrefutable proof that the LCWR are heretical. You can’t hide behind some fancy reference to Teilard de Chardin. Remember, this if from the website of the KEYNOTE SPEAKER for the LCWR!!!! Anyone who can’t see this truly is blind. I don’t want to hear any more garbage about how these fake sisters are good — they are not — they are EVIL, and I will continue to vigorously defend this position, and call out everyone who defends these dangerous heretics.
Amen Nancy
Jimmy, we are not going to be able to say you play well with others if you keep calling the Sisters names. Becareful when you step down off your soap box.
Tony — when I was in high school, I finally got the courage up to ask this most drop-dead gorgeous girl out on a date — I was head-over-heels attracted to her. She was always in my thoughts (I did not go on to marry her, in care you’re wondering — I don’t even know where she is today). Anyway, she used to call me “Jimmy” — and that just turned me on even more. The problem here though is three-fold: (1) you’re a guy; (2) you’re not 18 and slim; (3) I’m sure I wouldn’t think you are drop-dead gorgeous if I saw you. But, do know that everytime you call me Jimmy, it will remind me of this girl (her first name was Laureen — I won’t tell you her last name), and memories of her evoke positive feelings in me. A heads-up for you, Tony, and a lesson in social skills which you should take seriously: you just make yourself look like a fool when you post your emotional rants that seem to have come from the mind of a preschool girl.
Jim Bo, I have no desire to turn you on……thanks for the heads up. What I would very much like is if you would calm down and stop referring to the Sisters as heritics. It is very unbecoming to you, very insensitive and very unpastoral in our day,
Tony — it may be “unpastoral” in our day to call a heretic a heretic, but that is because too many clergy are pusillanimous. As a result of their timidity, we can see the disorder we have in our Church: fake heretical sisters who actually think they are going to help the Church “evolve.” What we need are modern St. Louis de Montforts to beat people up physically if necessary (not the ladies, though — they just need to be corrected sternly and socially excluded if necessary). So, bottom line is this: I will continue to call heretics only those who meet the definition of heretic as it is listed at dictionary.com. I’m sorry you see the truth as problematic. This heretical fake sisters have created such damage in the Church, and the damage has to be stopped. They need a strong, swift rebuke, and they need to see themselves for what they are: heretics.
I personally think you may be over stepping your bounds in your trying to give advice to Religious on how to be Religious. As I have said before, you are not a Religios you don’t share in the lived experiences and history that the have, you haven read the Council Document pertains to religious life, you have nothing to go on to presume to correct the Sisters. In my opinion you are out of your league.

The Sisters can teach us so much about God, especially the the fresh images of God buried within ancient traditions. In our Scriptures the Hebrew word of spirit ruah, is feminine, and the Greekword Sophia or Wisdom is a female image of God. The authors of Sacred Scripture were not afraid a female image of God and we should not be either. God is a God of suprises.
I know that American catholics support the works that the sisters have done and continue to do. However from a public Relations standpoint this picture of sisters dancing and looking to Barbra Marx Hublard as a model worries me. For the first time, (and I hope the last time) Jim has some valid points. There are two sticking points that I see as the heart of the matter. The first: The sisters are struggling to cut free of the yoke of dominence from a male Hierarchy that has in so many cases abused them by its very system. Secondly. they are attempting to re-define “religious life” for the future. These sisters are really between a rock and a hard place. I am sure that many if they were younger would choose to leave religious life, however due to age, stay. I pray for them that they can come to a healthy balance and be at peace with the the bishops who (you can’t live with and sadly can’t live without.”
I remember the All the provinces of the Franciscan Fathers publicly supported the Sisters in their efforts of renewal. I believe the friars understand and know religious life far better than a layperson like myself, like the friars I stand with the Sisters and I am proud to do so.
The LCWR keynoter spoke of the LCWR sisterhood as the “seedbed for evolving the church….” Interestingly, bishops and seminary authorities used to use that same imagery for describing the evolution of the priestly vocation! Note that the word “seminary” is derived from the Latin word for “seed bed.”
Heresy, anyone?
No, Florian, that statement in and of itself is not heretical. But when, e.g., heretical fake sister Farley says gay sex is morally licit, THAT is heresy. Also, “evolving” the Church needs to be balanced with a respect for legitimate authority. Did this speaker mention that? I’ve got $1000 that says she didn’t. So, not recognizing the authority of Rome does not represent heresy in and of itself, but it leads to heresy, as we can see, e.g., in the writings of heretic fake sister Farley.
Awe Jimmy, the Sisters are expressing their prayer though liturgical dance, liturgical dance is very well accepted in many cultures and is accepted in our own.
Jimmy, you are only a layman, stop badgering the Sisters, get off your little soap box and be careful crossing the streets.

What a joke! Look at the picture attached to this story. If you want an icon of “New Age”, there it is. They probably had crystals and triangles elsewhere on the stage, and I’m sure they had some Buddist music in the background. Here is what hte story says: “Barbara Marx Hubbard, an author and promoter of ‘conscious evolution,’…” “Conscious evolution?” My God, and this nut expects me to give up what the Church teaches to follow HER? Truly, one’s soul would have to be quite depraved to follow after this false teacher. How disgusted Jesus must be with these women who were called to give their lives in service of the Church, but have struck out on their own path which leads inerrantly to self-destruction. The only comfort I can take in this is that, in the end, God is a just God, and we all will be rewarded — or not — according to our deeds here on Earth.
