From conventions to Colbert, Cardinal Dolan plays on top stages

Reviving the authority and status of the Catholic Church has been the focus of Dolan, the most visible and influential U.S. Catholic bishop in decades. At a polarized time when many bishops are feeling embattled and laying low, the 62-year-old historian is giving “Today” co-host Matt Lauer a chatty televised tour of Rome, writing a newsy blog and making jokes about his beer drinking. Next month he will join TV comedian Stephen Colbert for an event about humor and spirituality.
“He’s an extrovert on steroids,” said John L. Allen, a prominent Catholic journalist, who earlier this year published a book on Dolan. “Left to his own devices he would talk to anyone anywhere about anything.” [more]

He is hardly equal to anyone. He is as much a political animal as obammmma and just as dangerous. We should all be wary of those who play to all sides and do not commit to any.
By Catholic Church law, participating in any way with those who approve of abortion (Democrats) would mean that Cardinal Dolan is committing a mortal sin.
Please remember that he is offering a prayer and these people need it!
Deacon don’t all people need prayer?
Yes, Tony, but the Demon-crats need them even more than pro-life Republicans, because they favor killing babies, and God hates killers, especially of babies.
Romney is in favor of abortion for rape, how prolife is that?
Tony, although this is not pro life it does not lack compassion…Do you have any idea the pain that a rape victim must endure and then to find herself pregnant? I would hope that a woman, who is Catholic and strong in her faith would not chose abortion but I am not her judge, Jesus is.
But when we allow abortion for a child conceived in rape we are in fact creating another victim. We are killing another human person. This is truly murder, the mother would do best in having the chiled adopted after birth. Abortionist never an answer.
A lot lot lot lot lot lot more pro-life than Mr. 666, who twice voted against legislation in IL that would have required resusitation of a child that survived a saline abortion.
Ecept for one thing the Republicans are pr-life BECAUSE the Democrats are pro-choice. Their “commitment” dates to an earlier split of the Republican party with the “Right to Life” party. So depending on “which way the wind blows”(or polls go), the Republicans will choose a “pro-choice” candidate(e.g. Mitt Romney). Hardly a resounding pro-life party.
I like the idea that Cardinal Dolan is hitting the political circuit to polish the image of the Vatican Catholic Institution. It is easy to stand before the many and present a likable side of the clergy. When will he tackle the major theo-political issue within the American Catholic Church, namely, the right and requirement for ‘dialogue’ at all levels on all issues. Dialogue is not an option in the American Catholic Church. Dialogue is THE core process by which the meaning, message, and method of Jesus of Nazareth’s life of reconciliation is instantiated, incarnated, embedded in the lives of the people. Only dialogue resolves differences without distance or distain. Unfortunately, dialogue is a democratic principle that threatens the absolute monarchy of the male clerical system. This can be changed only when the Pope and Bishops accept the central insight of Jesus’ theology, namely, the all relationships flow from Trinitarian creativity, sustenance, and abundance. All intimate interaction and intimate relationships, for which we strive, happen in, through, by, with dialogue. We cannot develop and fulfill our mission to be as God is for us unless we join in dialogue…. the source and resource of Jesus mission of surrender in service for solidarity. No dialogue.. no community. No community no service. No service no human development. No development, no salvation. If Bishops want real respect they must learn to listen emphatically and realistically to the process of human development. Dolan can make people like him, but only dialogue adds credibility to the wisdom and truth of the Catholic Church for the causes and concerns of Americans.

Is Dolan the new Spellman, the first among equals here in America?
