Catholic vote critical in quest to repeal Obamacare

Brian Burch, President of CatholicVote.org, issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the individual insurance mandate as a tax, holding that the Affordable Care Act is constitutional.

“The power to overturn this legislation now rests with the American people, who opposed this legislation from day one.  Given the power wielded by Catholics in every election, the election of a pro-freedom President and Senate must now become the number one political goal of every Catholic voter in America.

“Only with a new President and a new Senate can Americans eliminate this horrific healthcare law and start fresh with true health care reform, rooted in moral principles and sound economics.

“Catholics must remain vigilant. The notorious HHS mandate remains in place. Catholic voters must realize that the religious liberties of Catholic hospitals, schools and charities – including private businesses – remain endangered.

“Today’s court decision is a reminder that Catholics must continue the campaign called the Fortnight for Freedom started by our Catholic Bishops. The Bishops have asked all Catholics to study, pray and engage in public action. And CatholicVote.org is dedicated to help Catholics with voter registration, contacting Congress and voting this November for candidates who support life and religious liberty.”

Ii am beginning to think that I should with hold my tax money in proportion to the amount that the federal government spends on making war. Will you support me in this? With ou numbers we could make a difference!

    • Jim says:

Lucy — opposition to war and the withholding of tax is not guaranteed in the cxnstxtxtion, but the right to the free practice of religion is. BIG DIFFERENCE.

  2. Tom says:

It seems this site violates Federal laws on charities getting directly involved in politics.

  3. Ignatius the Hermit says:

Quite to the contrary, traditional Catholic social doctrine states that the government has an essential role in safeguarding the public domain, such as health care, assistance for the poor, freedom to practice religion and to work. Catholic voters will look to how social policies further the Kingdom of God.

    • Jim says:

Ignatius — traditional Catholic doctrine also calls for the provision of services on the most local level possible (subsidiarity). The involvement of the federal government is the exact opposite of what the Church sees as desirable.

    • Jim says:

Also, Ignatius, a vote for Obama is a vote for a men who signs the death warrants on 1.2 million babies a year. That clearly does not further hte Kingdom of God. The Blessed Mother — Our Lady of Guadalupe — would be campaigning for Mitt Romney.

    • Jim says:

Lastly, Ignatius, Obama clearly does not support the freedom to practice religion, as we can clearly see in the HHS debacle. And, yes, we have the freedom to work — but his horrible economic policies have ensured there are no jobs in America. He said that if Congress did not pass his nearly one trillion stimulus bill, the unemployment rate would shoot to eight percent. Well, the stimulus was passed, and you can see the results almost four years later: unemployment consistently above eight percent. Worst president ever; and, there is credible evidence that he is not an American. Mister 666 from IL — you know this was the first three-digit lottery drawing in IL after his election. Coincidence? JPII said there are no coincidences.

      • Recovering Catholic says:

I have to agree with you on this one, Jim. Obama is the worst president (and most dangerous one) we’ve ever had. Karl Marx and Lenin believed that socialism would invade and take over our country, insidiously, like putting a frog in cold water and then gradually heating up the water until the frog was boiled.

        • Jim says:

Recovering — as much as I don’t like what you say on virtually all of your other posts, I thank God you have enough intelligence to see Obama for what he is.

  4. Tony says:

It should be remembered that even the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, which is becomming more like the praying branch of the Republican Party, have not call for the repeal of Obama care.
The bishops are asking that the the law should be fixted not to have a resolution requirng contraceptive and abortion coverage.

    • Jim says:

The bishops currently are starting to see the error of their ways in this regard; they miscalculated — foolishly, I might add. Had they asked me, I would have told them ahead of time that this government intrusion was going to happen. And, we ain’t seen nothing yet — this is just the beginning of the totalitarian regime. Most Americans do not yet know it, but we are occupied — by the federal government.
