‘Vatileaks’ Scandal, Vatican Intrigue Cast Cloud Over Consistory
A scandal over leaked documents and reports of political infighting, intrigue and mismanagement in the Vatican’s frescoed halls has cast a cloud over this weekend’s ceremony to create 21 new princes of the church.
Pope Benedict XVI summoned cardinals new and old for a day of reflection Friday ahead of Saturday’s consistory, where the 21 new cardinals will get their red hats and be formally welcomed into the elite men’s club that will elect the next pope.
With the 84-year-old German pope slowing down, Saturday’s ceremony has taken on the aura of a pre-conclave summit, with the various geographic voting blocs of cardinals — Italians prime among them — jockeying for prominence with a view to take back the papacy they haven’t had for three decades.

Whether there is this division or not, division is a sign that we are not abiding in the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The political division in this country is a scandal. Humble servants who lead would seek to heal divisions in a spirit of integrity and truth.
We are told that judgement comes first to the house of the LORD.
If there are divisions in the Vatican, the repercussions are affecting civil governments as well.
The Vatican should sell all of their billions of dollars worth of real estate throughout the world, sell all the billions of dollars worth of shares of stock they have in multinational companies, auction off its treasures and give it all to the poor. We need to return to Jesus’ original mission of simply preaching the Gospel.
